Who should dance at Danza Viva?

If you are between the ages of 2 and 102 then you belong at Danza Viva! We offer classes at the beginning through professional levels in dances that will bring your dance to life!

Why world dance?

Because there is a world of dance which is much larger and richer than we have allowed ourselves to experience - a more fluid, expressive, authentic, dynamic, and life-giving world of dance which finds its origins in the exuberant movements of Africa and traces a rich history through Middle Eastern, Spanish, Latin and contemporary Hip Hop rhythms.

What if I have never danced before?

Danza Viva offers many beginning level classes for dancers who want to experience the joy of world dance without the pressure of having to "perform". Take one of our many dance fitness classes for a fun workout, try Latin Heat or Belly Dance to learn some fluid moves, or take Hip Hop and try out some funky urban moves.

What if I (or my child) is considering a professional career in dance?

Danza Viva’s students have access to the very best teachers and choreographers and have the opportunity to participate in advanced classes, teams and performance workshops. Both children and adult students can talk with Danza Viva's director Rebecca Huntman about designing a comprehensive pre-professional program at Danza Viva to include study in African, Jazz, Latin, Middle Eastern and Spanish dance or music.

Studio Policy

Please remove street shoes immediately upon entering studio.

Doors open for students 10 minutes before each class. When arriving early please ring east entrance doorbell for access to our comfortable waiting room and store.

Please pick up your children immediately after their class.  Late fees ($1.00 per minute) will be charged to parents who are more than five minutes late to pick up their child.

Attire: Proper attire is listed in the course description for each of our classes. Please note that all street shoes must be taken off at the door and that gym shoes with black soles are not permitted in the studio.

Dance Concerts/Recitals: Student dance concerts are held in the winter and in the spring. Please check "workshops/events" for this year's dates. In addition to these large-scale productions, all students enrolled in our children’s classes present a mini recital to their parents and friends several times throughout the year.

Private Lessons in Voice, Dance, or Drumming are available upon request.

Refer a Friend and both of you will receive a $10 class credit.

Scholarships: Need-based scholarships are available to Oak Park and River Forest residents through Youth Services, Oak Park/River Forest Townships. Ask us for an application.

Make-up Policy: Missed classes can be made up by attending another class during the same session but cannot be rolled over into another session.

Payment/Refund Policies

Adult classes: Classes are held in six week sessions and tuition is paid in full before the first day of each new session. Adults who plan a continued course of study at Danza Viva may choose to save 5 % by paying monthly per classes. See our registration form for details.

Children’s/Youth classes, Performance Workshops (optional for adults): All students enrolled in our children’s/youth classes or performance workshops as well as any adults who wish to save 5% pay monthly per classes. Monthly payments are charged automatically over our ten month season. Students’ spaces in their chosen classes are guaranteed from session to session. Students paying monthly receive a built-in 5% discount on their tuition.

Questions about our monthly payment program:

What if the student desires to leave the studio before the end of the season?

Simply write a letter requesting termination of automatic payment 30 days in advance of requested termination.

Can the student change classes throughout the year?

Certainly. You can change your class selection at any time as long as there is space in the class that you are requesting.

My child is playing sports in the fall but would like to join for winter classes. Can we still start mid year?

Yes. We will allow students to join throughout the year. Monthly payments will begin during the starting month.

Method of payment: Danza Viva accepts cash, checks, Master Card and Visa. Please make checks payable to Danza Viva. If checks are returned due to non-sufficient funds, Danza Viva will charge a $25.00 NSF fee. Note: All students enrolled in children’s/youth classes, teams or performance workshops are charged monthly to their Master Card or Visa.

Refunds: Sorry, no refunds or exchanges toward other sessions will be granted.
